No Man Is An Island

NO MAN IS AN ISLAND —-true story of US Navy radioman George Tweed, who evaded capture for three years on the island of Guam, following Japanese occupation in 1941. It’s a neat story, and Jeffrey Hunter gives an honest, unaffected performance. He’s handicapped by the minuscule production values of the 1962 effort and its excessive 114-minute length.

Filmed on location in The Philippines, with a budget that can’t have done much beyond pay for Hunter and supporting actor Marshall Thompson to fly over from L.A.  The rest of the cast and the action staging are both poor, too bad considering the possibilities of the story and the professionalism of the star’s contribution. Directed, written & produced by John Monks Jr. and Richard Gladstone. With Barbara Perez.
